Signed George Brooks 18K Gold Large Cabochon Turquoise Ring. Ring size 7-1/4 . Weight 11.4 grams. The oval turquoise measures 18.8 x 14.0 x 6.9 mm approximate carat weight 13 in an asymmetrical in setting. Provenance The Estate of Betty Warner Sheinbaum. Brooks was Czechoslovakian born who emigrated to Canada in 1931. He attended the Ecole des beaux arts de Montreal studying sculpture and metalsmithing. He started his career in jewelry as an apprentice goldsmith with the prestigious Canadian company Henry Birks and Sons in 1948, later transferring his apprenticeship to avant-garde jeweler George Delrue who fit Brooks' Modernist aesthetic. After a move to Santa Barbara California in 1962, Brooks produced his own unique designs until his retirement in 1991.
