Wonderful Pair of Antique Gilt Bronze Cavaliers each cast as men preparing to engage each other in a sword fight on oval bases, incised Ele. Guillemin and also stamped L.M. These were signed and sculptured by Emile-Coriolan-Hippolyte Guillemin an important French sculptor 1841-1907. one measures 8-1/2 inches high, the other measures 9 inches high to the top of his feathered cap. The oval bases measure 5-1/8 inches long and 3-3/4 inches wide. Combined weight 6.4 lbs, they weigh 3.2 lbs. each. This sculptor is recognized for specializing in cavalier sculptures of the 19th century. The cavaliers have a serious look getting ready to battle each other. The detail, lifelike quality and composition of these cavaliers is superb. They will make an extraordinary addition to any bronze sculpture collection. They are both in excellent condition and are guaranteed to please the new owner.
