Beautiful gilt bronze nude lady on a horseshoe signed Recipon, and stamped with the Susse Fres Editeurs Paris Foundry seal. The title of this sculpture by George Recipon is Le prote-bonheur ou La Chance. George Recipon was an important French sculptor 1860-1920. He studied with Dumont and Francais, and exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1879. In 1888 he became an Associate of Artistes de Francais an thereafter exhibited at the salon winning a medal in 1890 and a first class medal in 1901. Also had honorable mentions and silver medal at the Expositions of 1889 and 1900 respectively, and received Legion d'Honneur in the latter year. He was not only a sculptor but also a painter. He sculptured classical subjects notably the 2 bronze Quadrigae on the Palace of fine arts and the Nymphs representing the Seine and the Neva on the Pont Alexandria III in Paris. This exact model, only without a silvered horseshoe just the gilt bronze nude on a bronze horseshoe, sold at Sotheby's Paris February 23, 2005 lot #197 realized $6,023.00. Our model is the deluxe version with a gilt bronze nude and a silvered bronze horseshoe. The composition depicts a beautiful nude gilt bronze lady with a hammer in her right hand and horsehoe nail in the left. She's getting ready to hammer in the nail. Recipon made this is two sizes. This model is the largest size known of this edition. The model we are offering is in excellent condition with no loss or rubbing to the gilt. Height: 5 inches, widest width: 8 inches. The bronze nude measures 7-1/2 inches from her left hand to her left toe. Weight 4-1/2 lbs. She has a beautiful face and body. This is a wonderful composition of a very desirable French bronze nude.
