Beautiful Antique Bronze Bust Diana Inscribed Houdon Sculp'd 1767 and also inscribed on the base with Susse Fres Foundry. This is a 19th century Susse Fres foundry marked bronze sculpture of Diana after Houdon. Jean Antoine Houdon 1741-1828. this artist was one of the most important French sculptors who did bronze portrait busts of famous people including Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and mythological subjects like Diana. The bronze that we are offering is in superb condition. The bust is set on a bronze base that allows the bust to be turned without moving the base. It is on a revolving socle. This is a wonderful superb quality gorgeous bust of Diana with her hair tied back and a large crescent moon as her head piece. She wears a robe slung low off her shoulders with a strap across one shoulder. The bronze is in superb condition, perhaps one of the finest quality bronze busts of Diana ever created by a French sculptor. This is the classical version depicting a beautiful portrait bust of Diana. The bust measures 18-1/2 inches from bottom of the base to the top of her crescent moon head piece. From shoulder to shoulder she measures 1 foot wide. Weight 20 lbs. The base has a diameter of 5-7/8 inches. This gorgeous bronze will make a wonderful addition to any collection. The original bronze was sculptured by Houdon in 1767, the one we are offering is a Susse Fres foundry after the original 18th century bronze by Houdon.
