Rare Jules Desbois Antique 2 Color Bronze Pitcher with Ladies. Extraordinary signed Jules Desbois gilt and patinated Art Nouveau bronze pitcher with a sculptured lady on each side and a vine sculptured handle. Jules Desbois was a very important French sculptor born in 1851 and died in 1935. His most expensive sculpture at auction sold for $44,239.00. This is signed J. Desbois on the side underneath the handle. It has inscribed numbers 483E on the underside with the letter D within a wreath, above that it is inscribed SIOT-PARIS on the lower portion of the pitcher near the underside. One side of the pitcher has a nude gilt bronze woman with her face looking down obscured by her left arm. The other side has a gilt bronze sculptured woman's face looking towards the left. The handle is a gilt bronze vine, could be a grape vine. The top of the pitcher has gilt bronze sculptured leaves making up the sides, back and pouring spout. This is an extremely rare sculpture created by one of the most important French sculptors of the 19th century and early 1900s. This is a fabulous Art Nouveau treasure guaranteed to please the most advanced Art Nouveau collector or enthusiast. The pitcher measures 7-1/8 inches high, 6 inches long and 3 inches wide. Weight 4.4 lbs. This will look beautiful used as a vase with flowers or in a display cabinet with other Art Nouveau treasures.
