Baby & Child With Doll Oil Painting Virgilio Tojetti Italian 1851-1901

Beautiful oil painting artist signed Virgilio Tojetti (Italian 1851-1901) in the upper left and dated 1889. The painting depicts a beautiful young girl and baby sleeping against pillows. In front of the little girl rests an antique Simon & Halbig doll. The painting measures 16-1/2 inches wide by 10-1/2 inches high. It is in an antique gilt wood frame measuring 13-3/4 inches high by 19-1/2 wide. The painting is in excellent condition and extremely well painted. A similar painting by the same artist but with only one sleeping child holding a Simon & Halbig doll sold at Sotheby's New York Feb 20, 1992 lot #0087A for $20,900.00. That painting was 18.7 inches high and 26.5 inches wide. The painting we are offering for sale is much nicer and has 2 children in it with what appears to be the same doll. This artist did beautiful paintings of sleeping children. We researched all the paintings that had been sold at auction by this artist and believe the one we are offering is his finest known work.
